Ron Pope - Atlanta

Ron Pope-Atlanta

Ronald Michael Pope does not get the recognition he deserves. I know me writing about him won’t make him famous over-night but I hope those of you who do read this, listen to a few of his tracks and tell people about his fantastic voice.

This man is gob-smackingly awesome. I only came across his music a few months ago when I was listening to some of “The Vampire Diaries” soundtrack when I heard this WONDERFUL song ‘A Drop in the Ocean’ by none other than Ron himself, it honestly wowed me. He wrote it in 2005 and it had featured in shows like 90210 and The Vampire Diaries. It’s when he first really started his music career, and I was shocked I’d only heard his music on YouTube in 2012. I really think he deserves to be noticed a lot more.

Anyway, he released his newest album ‘Atlanta’ last month and I love it. I love it, I love it, I love it. It’s astonishingly excellent. He plays kind of pop-folksy stuff but his songs are just...gorgeous! This is actually his 8th album and I’ve listened to some of the tracks from his older cd’s and they’re just as astounding as the new ones. I really do wish I’d heard of him before.

Some of my favourites from Atlanta are, One Grain Of Sand, October Trees, I Do Not Love You, and Atlanta itself. Though all of the songs on the album are good these just stood out. One Grain Of Sand is just so strong, he’s talking about how he’s with this girl but thinks she’s not that interested in him, and how he doesn’t want to make her feel love if she doesn’t. Whereas I Do Not Love You is very misleading from its name, you think it’s just going to be about him being with someone he doesn’t love when really he’s saying how he doesn’t love his girlfriend for super-ficial reasons but for so much more. So all his songs differ on subject matter but they’re all so... original.

As soon as he releases some new stuff I will definitely be writing about him more. He’s really different and un-noticed and I’m so glad I came across his music online; I haven’t stopped listening to his songs since!

Ed Sheeran-Small Bump video review

Ed Sheeran- Small Bump Video

Firstly I’d just like to say how gosh-darn lovely Ed Sheeran is! And his music and videos clearly match the genuine guy he is. His newly released song Small Bump, from his album “+” along with the video, is truly heart-achingly tragic.

Personally I really like this song, though I heard it a few weeks back on YouTube it still pulls on my heart strings every time I hear it. Though the video is very very simple I think that compliments the song and makes you really listen to the lyrics, there isn’t much going on which is a good and bad thing to be honest.

Sometimes when I watch the video I think it’s too simple, that there could have been more to it, just something to give it a little umph. But then I watch it again and him sitting in the waiting room is more than enough. Though I did like the way they showed children and adults coming to the hospital for different reasons, it made it kind of cute. I know it’s an awfully sad song, but whilst he was singing and the little girl runs in it was kind of nice in a way.

His dress sense in all his videos is pretty similar but I like it. I think it suits him a lot. His casual hoodie, jeans and trainers are nice. I don’t think it would suit him going round in a slim-fit suit or taking his shirt off dancing around. I like his style, it’s who he is and I sincerely hope it doesn’t change too much as his career carries on.

Also I think it’d be good to mention some of the powerful lyrics to the song. I really liked when he sang “Fingernails the size of a half grain of rice, eyelids closed to be soon open wide” though he’s singing it in quite a solemn blank expression I think he’s excited that he’s going to have a baby, he describes in detail the little features he can’t wait to see and how he can’t wait for his child to open its eyes for the first time.

One of the other lyrics I think really shows that he wrote the song and he is involved in it is “Might be left with my hair but you’ll have your mother’s eyes” I think that lyric is just adorable. Because he’s ginger and a lot of people are really rude about that he’s basically saying , ‘hey yeah I’m your dad and you’re probably gonna get my ginger locks, but you’ll have your mothers eyes’ He’s probably one of the only really real and pure people in the music industry. Obviously I’ve never met him but he seems just amazing. His songs always do make my heart skip a beat.

The last lyric I’m going to comment on is one of the last one’s in the song “You were just a small bump unborn, four months and torn from life” clearly this is saying how his child has passed and gone to heaven. It’s an extremely sad ending to a beautiful song but it’s sadly realistic, as this kind of thing does happen to people un-fortunately often. I think Ed was trying to really connect and help people who have gone through this kind of situation. I don’t know what could’ve compelled him to write such a song as most of song-writing comes from experience, I really hope he hasn’t experienced anything like this.

Overall I really do love this song and the video was a nice touch. I think it’ll be very popular for a long time.
