Leona Lewis- Collide

Leona Lewis ft. Avicii –Collide

Right, well firstly I’d like to say, HEY: D I bet you’re all hyped up for the summer holidays and I hope you all have a great one. Also since it’s the holidays now I will be trying to post a lot more often, though at some points I’ll be staying with relatives, going out, etc etc. But I hope you’ll all check regularly to see if I’ve posted my lovely loyal readers. Here's a review I wrote a little while back and never posted, I thought it'd be a nice way to kick -start my summer posts.

Leona Lewis’s single ‘Collide’ is a huge summery anthem and extremely popular with the nation after her last album (Echo) failed to reach number one in the charts Leona went back to the drawing board and now has a fabulous song and video. She has also announced her latest album will be named ‘Glass Heart’.

After winning the X Factor 2007 she has released 2album’s a book and a perfume (which has not been released in the UK). She’s blatantly one of X Factors biggest successes.

This brilliant new single (which she collaborated with Swedish DJ Avicii on) is very different to her usual slow soulful music like ‘Run’ or ‘I See You’ it’s got more of a dance diva vibe to it, set on a sunny beach giving a very happy mood, it has kind of an ‘Ibiza Party’ theme to it.  It was actually produced by the same people who produced work from the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry and David Guetta.

During the video there’s a lot of smiles and dancing, it’s got a very summery look to it, she’s seen with 2guys throughout the video dancing and flirting, she seems very confident and outgoing, and I think whilst making the video the genuinely had fun. She’s good friends with the boys from One Direction and they where tweeting each other about their new video’s this week when Leone wished Liam Payne a happy birthday he replied ‘ Thanks babe (: I need to watch your new video xxx’

Her dress sense in the video is fun, from her polka dot bikini to her light feminine dress, she looks amazing in both, and she’s is wearing very minimum makeup apart from on her eyes which looks pretty and sweet.

I adore Leona in general but this song was just the cherry on top of the cake. It’s so fun and loud, I could literally listen to it again and again, she’s got such a unique voice and personality, she’s not just like your average singer, she isn’t afraid to try something new, she won’t stick to the same type of thing again and again, and I believe experimenting is what builds you up, she is a idol to many. The video is amazing too, all the different people and outfits and the setting was just stunning, she has really been blessed with such a beautiful voice.

Katy Perry - Wide Awake video review

Katy Perry- Wide Awake video review

Katy Perry’s music video for her new song ‘Wide Awake’ is quite a treat for the eyes isn’t it? It’s probably one of the most fascinating complex wonderful things I’ve ever seen. Visually I was mesmerized.  From bulls heads to ground breaking mirrors and mazes, there’s so much to say about this video so I’ll get started, shall I?

The pop star who recently attended the premiere to her new documentary movie (“Part Of Me”) starts off by filming the video to one of her previous songs, ‘California Girls’ then goes to her dressing room and has some kind of daydream, an epiphany if you will. And tree branches expand from her head almost as if her mind is branching out and she has a realisation.  Then she’s in this maze, a twisted dark labyrinth, and she’s searching through it, I think she’s trying to find a way out. It’s enchanting. The dark walls with twisted branches seeping over and the light snow it all very stunning. It must’ve taken a genius to envision such an original video.

Then whilst searching she finds this strawberry. Its bright red and up against the dark walls it stands out. I think the strawberry represents temptation and decision. She chooses to eat the strawberry and next she finds the younger version of herself. kind of like her own mini-me They are soon led into this hallway of mirrors. The mirrors represent visions of the future I think, Katy puts her hand on one of the mirrors and see’s camera’s constantly flashing, paparazzi in her face, as if to say she won’t have any life or privacy then the ground behind her crumbles while her mini-me tries to warn her. Then they are led into a hospital.

Now the hospital scene I like, the little Katy is pushing big Katy in a wheelchair, now big Katy is all ill and droopy, clutching the strawberry she’d eaten earlier. So obviously the strawberry had poisoned her (a little Snow White if you ask me) and she doesn’t seem conscious. In the hallway in front of them are two men with bullheads. They stand firm like guards, I think these men represent a trap or wall, she’s stuck and they won’t let her go. Then little Katy stamps her foot and the bulls fly up and disappear and big Katy regains consciousness. Showing us maybe a new Katy, when she re-appears she looks lighter, brighter and more floral in comparison to her previous look which was dark but strangely elegant. I think this meant it was a trap that only she could free herself from. That’s how I’ve interpreted it anyway.

From the hospital they appear in this magical floral garden right opposite to the dark scary maze she was in before. And there waiting is a Prince Charming on his trusty steed. I think this man could represent Russell, as he gets up and kisses her hand his fingers are crossed, little Katy warns her and she punches him right round the gob. It actually made me giggle. I think she is showing that you should be careful who you trust.
The two girls exchange happiness and celebrate. Then little Katy puts a butterfly into big Katy’s hand and they hug and she rides off on her bike. Katy appears in her dressing room moments later and goes on to perform her single “Teenage Dream” on stage.

There’s much more I’d like to talk about like the lyrics and how I think they’re referring to her recent marriage break up with Russell Brand, the whole video kind of tells a story of recently occurring events in her life, but I’m sure that’s quite self-explanatory. So overall I absolutely adore this video. It was just gorgeous, fun to watch, like a story, I couldn't stop watching because I needed to know what happened to her. I think it’s telling us to expect a brand new character in her new album. That really does excite me. So that’s a wrap to the “Teenage Dream” album. How fantastic.
