We all know about
the sad and tragic death of Whitney Houston,48, earlier this week so I decided
to write a little tribute about her as a big fan of her music.
Whitney was a
legendary artist that many will always look up too; she had a stunning soulful
voice that will be remembered. She was a worldwide star, she’d sold over
170million albums in her career, and I’m not even surprised with such a big
number, if you just listen to one of her songs you’d know how amazing she was.
She had suffered
from drug problems recently but nobody could have suspected that she’d die so
young, we all thought she’d live to be as old as other music legends like Etta
James who also recently passed aged 73 this January.
It’s such a huge
loss to the music industry and all our hearts, I know some of my favourite
songs ever were sung by her, like I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Million Dollar Bill
and I Will Always Love You. The other thing is, it’s not only a loss to her
family, friends and fans, but to other artists too. Singers such as Rihanna and
Mariah Carey paid their tribute over Twitter. Mariah tweeted “Heartbroken and
in tears over the shocking death of my friend the incomparable Whitney Houston”
whilst Rihanna tweeted “No words just tears. #DearWhitney”.
Some new information that was
streamed this morning is that it’s been confirmed Whitney’s funeral will be
held at New Jersey Church that she attended every Saturday and even sang many
times as a child. Involved
press got a deal with Ms.Houston’s publicist to get the ceremony on live TV,
12pm in New Jersey and 5pm in the UK; it will also be made available online.
She
achieved what many artists aspire too, she did so much in her career, 30 UK hit
singles, 6Grammy awards, a beautiful daughter, The Bodyguard (film) etc. Though
she had problems and challenges she still graced the world with the sound of
her magnificent voice. And though it saddens people to accept her death, she’s
up there with Michael, Etta and Amy now. She’ll always be remembered.
I know
I’ll be digging out her old albums and listening to them on full volume!
R.I.P
Whitney Houston.
